Breakaway Esports is proud to announce its new branding for the competitive side of the business, Black Sheep New Zealand.

The new setup will allow the organisation to identify more closely as a Kiwi-focused team as it continues to give opportunities to New Zealand players to compete on the world stage. After the first year of operation, the management team identified a need to better represent New Zealand around the world and throughout Australasia.

With its current line up in Hearthstone and Tekken, the organisation is preparing its launch into more titles with a focus on developing local talent.

Breakaway Esports will continue to operate as the Youth and Development arm of the business, by utilising its state-of-the-art training facility to educate and train the next generation of competitors.

“The next 6-12 months are going to be the biggest in our team’s journey,” says Matt Walsh, CEO of Breakaway Esports & Black Sheep NZ. “We’re going to double-down on our first year of operation by increasing investment in both our competitive teams and academy programs.”

“As a brand, Black Sheep NZ stands for everything that it means to pull on the black and white jersey and be part of the squad,” Walsh says. “We aim to never do things by the book, and to challenge the status quo and standards of esports not only in New Zealand, but throughout Oceania.”

The second half of 2019 will bring a new era of operation to the organisation, as they set out to wave the New Zealand flag in the world’s biggest competitions. Their players are already locked-in to compete against the best in Greece, Berlin, Las Vegas, New Jersey and many more cities around the globe before 2020 arrives.
